Why Giving and Generosity?
God Enriches for a Reason
11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. 12 This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.13 Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. —2 Corinthians 9:11–13 (NIV)
God wants to use you, and the resources He entrusted to you, to take care of others. What results from your generosity and obedience to God’s prompting is an overflowing of thanks to God for your Gospel-motivated giving. When you are obedient to God’s prompting in your giving, people receive what they need, God gets the glory, and you walk in joy and purpose, knowing you are carrying out God’s will. What a privilege!
PRAY
Father, thank you for providing for me. Please use me to help meet the needs of others, and in doing so, may you receive all the glory. In the name of Jesus, amen.
ACT
Examine your monthly expenditures and ask this question: what is this money accomplishing? In particular, evaluate your spending on luxury and entertainment. Add up the expense of these items and consider dedicating some of that money to the kingdom purposes.
