Preschool (Ages 3–Kindergarten)

The Preschool Ministry at Prestonwood is a cooperative effort between the church and the home as parents and staff team up to teach preschoolers about Jesus.

Please review our guidelines regarding what to bring, what we provide, what to expect, our check-in procedures and classroom assignments.

The Preschool Experience

The Preschool Ministry is an integral part of Prestonwood Baptist Church. It is a cooperative effort between the church and the home, utilizing the efforts of both parents and the church body to effectively reach the children of our community with the message of Jesus Christ.

The AIM of our ministry is Christ-centered. We desire to help parents in building strong, spiritual foundations in the lives of children to lead them into a personal and dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ.

The PROGRAM of our ministry is centered on the child. Our ministry focuses on the spiritual, relational, physical and mental needs of the child, and all programming is designed to encourage growth in these areas. Our focus is not on the program, but on people.

Our METHODOLOGY is experienced-based. Our ministry is not based on passive learning. Rather, it involves children in the learning process through questioning, discovering, and evaluating.

Our MATERIAL is Bible-based. We believe that the Word of God is the answer to the needs in our lives and is practical to today’s child and adult. Our curriculum is designed to help children develop a love for God’s Word, discover what the Bible says, and learn how to apply that truth to their lives.

Our FACILITIES provide an environment that stimulates learning. Our classroom design, furnishings and educational equipment keep in mind the appropriate age group characteristics for the children in that particular room.

Our STAFF is comprised of people who have trusted Christ as their personal Savior and desire to share the love of Jesus with our children. We provide the materials, curriculum, facilities and proper training to equip our staff to successfully accomplish their goals.

What to Expect

A Warm and Secure Welcome
As you and your preschooler approach our Children’s Ministry Building, you will both be greeted by our greeters and security team who are there to help you through the entire check-in process. You will be handed an iPad to enter your family information. We will then print name tags for your whole family to enter our Children’s Ministry Building; everyone in the Children’s Building must have a name tag. You will then enter into a world focused on teaching preschoolers biblical truths. Once children are signed in at the age-appropriate classroom, they will enter into a positive experience of learning and fun planned just for them.

Activity Centers
Preschoolers are encouraged to participate in opening activities such as building with blocks, coloring a picture, working a puzzle, preparing a pretend meal, or reading a book. The teacher will use these activities to reinforce each weekend’s biblical truth.

Teaching Art Project
The children will create an art project to help reinforce the focus and theme of the lesson. Encourage your child to show you his or her craft and discuss the Bible verse and story.

Playground
For 10-15 minutes, your child will get to release some energy on our age-appropriate indoor/outdoor playgrounds.

Snack
A snack is provided for your preschooler during LifeGroup. The snack traditionally consists of butter cookies and water. Please inform your child’s teacher of any allergies during the sign-in process. Allergy Alert stickers are also available for your preschooler to wear.

Gathering for Group Time
Each classroom will have fun with songs, finger plays or games to help the preschoolers prepare for story time. Prayer is always a part of our group time.

Group time also includes Big Room time, a 20-minute worship experience in Creation Station (ages 3 –5) or The Bridge (kindergarten). Our 18-month-olds will travel to Tiny Praise each hour for an interactive worship experience in the Fish Bowl.

Story Time
Your child’s teacher will tell the Bible story in a clear and meaningful way that is easy for preschoolers to understand. They will learn basic biblical truths they can apply to their preschool world. A Bible verse is always used to emphasize the theme and focus of the lesson. Pictures are often used by the teacher to tell the story, and brightly painted murals of favorite Bible stories are displayed on the walls of our Children’s Ministry Building. These are used on a regular basis to help a Bible story come to life.

Heading Home
When you pick up your child from class, the teacher will help gather your child’s belongings, art work and take-home page. The teacher will check your receipt and your child’s nametag for a match before releasing the preschooler into your care.

Family Time Take-Home Page
We seek to assist parents in the spiritual growth of children. A text message is sent weekly, and a digital parent piece is posted online so parents can review throughout the week with their child what he/she learned on Sunday.

A Warm and Secure Welcome
As you and your preschooler approach our Children’s Ministry Building, you will both be greeted by our security team at the information booth. At the QuickPass check-in kiosks, you will receive a nametag for your child and a corresponding receipt for yourself. Once children are signed in at the age-appropriate classroom, they will enter into a positive experience of learning and fun planned just for them. Kindergarteners will be dropped off at their classrooms, then go to KidZone 1.

You can read the story and the Bible verse with your child to help them understand the lesson and the verse. Save the “Family Time Take-Home Page” and use it during the week. This interaction with your child can be very rewarding for both of you.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are needed on Sundays at all campuses, and we need all parents to volunteer if at all possible. Please contact [email protected] (Plano) or [email protected] (North) for information.

  • Lend a hand with Preschool projects each week! If you are willing to help for one hour
  • Nurses and physicians, you are invited to serve in a special way! We need volunteers during Worship Service times in case a preschooler has a need for first aid.
  • Are you interested in making a difference in the life of a child? Our teachers, who teach every week or every other week, partner with families to help lay an eternal foundation built upon the truth of God’s Word. Please contact us if you would like to use your gifts to share the love of Jesus with our preschoolers. It would be a blessing to talk with you about our ministry needs and walk you through the application process and training.

Christian Learning Center (CLC)

The Preschool Christian Learning Center (CLC) is a “Weekday Preschool” program for children from 8-weeks to 5-years-old, or the year prior to kindergarten. The Plano and North campuses offer parents one- or two-day options on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. For more details, click here.

MOPS – Mothers of Preschoolers

MOPS is an opportunity to meet, fellowship with and be encouraged by other moms. We will meet every other week (with the exception of spring break) throughout the school semester. Come and join us for coffee, a light breakfast, and an encouraging and biblical word from a speaker, followed by intentional discussions within smaller groups. We hope to create an opportunity for moms to feel seen and heard in the joys and the struggles of the early motherhood years. We desire to learn together what God has in store for our lives while being known by our local community. For more details, click here.
