Infants & Toddlers

The Nursery Ministry, for infants and toddlers up to age 2, joins you during this small window of time to minister to them as young children. We will provide your child with physical care and spiritual training in a fun, safe environment.

Please review our guidelines regarding what to bring, what we provide, what to expect, our check-in procedures and classroom assignments.

Nursery

We welcome you and your child to this ministry of our church. We join with you in a vitally important task: the nurturing of your child’s development. It is astonishing how few years children are in the home and how little time our church has to minister to them as children. Because of this, we have developed some goals and standards for ourselves in this ministry area. Our goals include providing your child with the physical care and spiritual training that will build within him/her the right concept about the Church, God and Jesus. Our prayer is for each child to grow up in a Christian home, and for each of us to exhibit understanding and cooperation as we work together for the good of your child.

What to Bring

When packing a diaper bag for your child, please include the following items:

  • Two or three diapers
  • A complete change of clothes
  • Bottle of milk, formula, juice or water (this is a good practice even for mothers who nurse)

Please label all personal items (including pacifiers and sippy cups) with your child’s first and last name before arriving at your child’s class. This helps us keep track of your child’s items.

When You Arrive at Your Child’s Room

A nursery leader will meet you at the door to receive your child, diaper bag and any other items.  At the time of check-in, your child will receive an adhesive nametag to be placed on your child’s back with his or her name on it. We’ll note your cellphone number so we can text you in case we need to contact you.

After you have completed the check-in process, simply wave a quick goodbye and leave for the Worship Service or your LifeGroup Bible Study. As you know, it is normal for little ones to cry when a parent leaves. This does not last long, and separation becomes easier over time. Our leaders will immediately create interest in a toy or activity and give assurance that you will return. If your child cries for an extended period of time, we will text you.

When you return to pick up your child, we will verify that your security badge number matches your child’s nametag and then release your child to you. A child will not be released to a parent without presentation of the proper identification.

What We Provide

Snacks
Snacks are provided for toddlers. The snack items consist of Cheerios® for children 14–18 months and small butter cookies for children 19 months through kindergarten. If your child has an allergy, please inform the leader when you check in your child.

Curriculum
We believe that even our littlest ones can learn! Regular learning experiences are planned and lessons are reinforced with songs, Bible thoughts and supervised activities designed with the ability of the children in mind. The Bible is used in all departments.

Parenting Tips
We seek to assist parents in the spiritual growth of children. A digital parent piece is posted online so parents can review with their child throughout the week.

Opportunities for Parents

Nursing Mothers Room
We love children at Prestonwood, and we want to make sure your family is cared for when you visit. With that in mind, we’ve offer at least one Nursing Mothers Room on each campus for our moms to use. Mothers may comfortably view the service on a television monitor while they tend to their infants. To respect everyone’s privacy, these rooms are for women only.

At the Plano Campus, we also offer the Family Worship Room. The room is on the first floor, behind KIDZ Central, and offers comfortable seats with a large-screen TV for viewing Worship Services.

Parent & Child Dedication
Prestonwood Baptist Church observes Parent/Child Dedication three times a year. This is a special time when parents thank God for a precious new life and pledge themselves to follow the Lord’s leadership in the development of their child. You may call 972-820-5333 (Plano Campus) or 972-798-6732 (North Campus) for information regarding these special times.

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are needed on Sundays at all campuses, and we need all parents to volunteer if at all possible. Please call 972-820-5333 (Plano Campus) or 972-798-6732 (North Campus) for information.

Christian Learning Center (CLC)
CLC is a planned Christian weekday program for children ages 8 weeks to 5 years old.

In the Beginning Class for First-Time Moms

Plano Campus
One of the most exciting times for a woman is experiencing that first year of her baby’s life! First smile, first words, first steps – so many wonderful things that will be embedded in a mom’s heart forever. Information and advice come from all directions, including friendly advice from your own mom and even strangers on the street; yet there is nothing like sitting down with other women who are in the same place in life—the new mom phase!

We invite you to bring your baby and join new moms as well as a loving and supportive teaching team of women for the In The Beginning class. This class is uniquely designed to meet the specific needs of first-time moms with new babies (birth–1 year). The teaching team includes registered nurses and a certified lactation specialist. Each week you will also have the opportunity to weigh your baby. Topics are planned with your needs in mind. Biblically based principles, along with practical advice, fill the discussions that pertain to relationship building, nutrition and fitness, organizational tips, and making memories with your baby. The topics listed here are just a glimpse of the exciting conversations that will be shared.
