Bible Fellowship Classes Assist Hurricane Katrina Families

The Young Singles Division adopted several Hurricane Katrina survivor families in the fall of 2005. These families were a tremendous addition to our church and helped young singles grow in their walks with God.

Adopting a family has given our class a focused area of ministry where each member, like the body of Christ, has served some necessary function and met either a tangible or spiritual need. Ministering together has built our class up in unity, and we have also been greatly blessed and encouraged by seeing how the family has responded to this tragic event in their lives by putting their faith in Jesus Christ.

—Shaun Zinck

Our family has done more for our group than we have done for them. From the moment they first met us, they have been loving, and welcoming. They have loved us like only a family can. As a single living far from my family, this is something that I needed.

—Carl Plymale

It is so neat to know that, in the midst of a disaster, God is using us to serve and encourage the Lucas family. It has been an encouragement to me as well, seeing the outpouring of volunteers from the Singles Ministry. Whether it's been clothes, furniture or transportation that the Lucas' needed, so many people have pulled together to provide for this family. That's what family is all about!
