Nursery

First Steps

We welcome you and your child to this ministry of our church. Our nursery is for infants and toddlers up to 2 years old. We join with you in a vitally important task: the nurturing of your child's development. It is astonishing how few years a child is in the home and how little time our church has to minister to them as children. Because of this, we have developed some goals and standards for ourselves in this ministry area. Our goals include providing your child with the physical care and spiritual training that will build within him the right concept about the church, God and Jesus. Our prayer is for each child to grow up in a Christian home, and for each of us to exhibit understanding and cooperation as we work together for the good of your child.

What to Bring

When packing a diaper bag for your child, please include the following items:

  • two or three disposable diapers (no cloth diapers, please)
  • a complete change of clothes
  • bottle of milk, formula, juice or water (this is a good practice even for mothers who nurse)

Please label all personal items (including pacifiers and sippee cups) with your child's first and last name before arriving at your child's class. This helps us keep track of your child's items.

When You Arrive at Your Child's Room

A Nursery leader will meet you at the door to receive your child, diaper bag and any other necessary items. Please note on the sign-in sheet any information that will help in caring for your child, such as feeding times, sleeping times, allergies and special needs.

At the time of check-in, a Nursery leader will apply an adhesive nametag to your child's back with his or her name on it, and label the diaper bag. You will be given a pager that has an identifying number on it. The pager will vibrate, so please hold or wear the pager at all times. Please present the pager upon return to your child's classroom. We will verify that your security badge matches the number on your child's nametag and then we’ll release your child to you. A child will not be released to a parent without presentation of the pager and proper identification.

After you have completed the check-in process, simply wave a quick good-bye and leave for the worship service or your Bible Fellowship class. As you know, it is normal for little ones to cry when a parent leaves. This does not last long, and separation becomes easier over time. Our leaders will immediately create interest in a toy or activity and give assurance that you will return. If your child cries for an extended period of time, we will page you.

What We Provide

Snacks

Snacks are provided for our new walkers and toddlers. The food items consist of water or apple juice and wafer cookies. If your child has an allergy please inform the leader when you check in your child.

Curriculum

We believe that even our littlest ones can learn! Regular learning experiences are planned and lessons are reinforced with songs, Bible thoughts and supervised activities designed with the ability of the children in mind. The Beginners Bible is used in all departments.

Parenting Tips

We seek to assist parents in the spiritual growth of children. Bible Steps will be given to parents so they can review with their child throughout the week.

Pick-up Procedures

Please make sure that all of your child's personal items have been returned to you before you leave the premises. Lost and found items will be retained for a short time. Items not claimed are donated to our City Missions ministry after one month.

Parent Pagers

Hand-held vibrating pagers will be provided, one per family, to the parent signing in the child. If you have children in separate rooms, you will receive one pager, and the number will be assigned to each child.

The parent who accepts the pager is to have it on himself or herself at all times when away from the child. If there is an emergency or any problem involving the child, the pager will vibrate and the parent will need to come to the room and ask the responsible person in the room about the problem.

The pager's radius only includes the church buildings. Therefore, if a parent leaves the premises while his or her child is in the nursery or preschool area, the pager will not be able to reach the parent.
